Thomas Chareyre impresses in Greek GP’s qualifying |
THESSALONIKI (GREECE), 17 October 2009 – At the end of a hard fought qualifying session an incredibly quick Thomas Chareyre clocked the best time in the S1 class while Gozzini topped the S2 time sheets. An impressive Hiemer took second fastest at his comeback GP as he retained the top spot for some time during the session. Lazzarini was third in the S1 ahead of series leader VDB. Championship leader Adrien Chareyre settled for second fastest in S2 ahead of Husqvarna fellow riders Bartolini and Delepine. Porfiri (Open) and Karanyotov (S3) won the qualifying heats of the European series. S1 Thomas Chareyre won a dogfight for the top spot in the S1 time sheets as the Husqvarna CH Racing man clocked an impressive laptime of 56.436 seconds. The Frenchman has won the previous two Grand Prix’s and looks for his third consecutive overall win. A surprising Hiemer of KTM Italia Miglio came back to racing this weekend after a March injury took him out of the opening four Grand Prix’s. The defending S1 Champion, who won both the Title and the Grand Prix last year at Thessaloniki, was second quickest. The German has not scored even one single point this year but will try and make up for that tomorrow at his first competitive outing of 2009. Lazzarini instead is third in the Championship, sandwiched in between Hermunen and Chareyre, and was third in today’s time sheets as well. The HM Honda Racing man needs to score more than Chareyre tomorrow in order to retain his spot inside the top three. Championship leader Van Den Bosch took fourth quickest ahead of Hermunen.
