FIM Off Road Awards round off final SuperMoto Grand Prix of 2009 at Salou

SALOU (SPAIN), 15 November 2009 – Right at the end of the final Grand Prix of the 2009 FIM SuperMoto World Championship season at Salou the FIM Off Road Awards dedicated to SuperMoto got underway to celebrate the 2009 Champions and personalities.

Starting off at about 18.30 in the Damasco Room of Port Aventura’s Congress Centre, the FIM Awards’ glamorous stage saw the 2009 Champions star a show within the show of the Catalan GP, which the public could attend for free. The occasion gave the fans the chance to attend the very end of the FIM SuperMoto season, first watching the sport’s stars compete in the hard fought motos of the last Grand Prix and then attending the glamorous prize giving celebration.

Each personality walking up the stage to receive an award was presented by an exciting video clip resuming their career and season through eye catching images.

The list of awarded personalities included all S1 and S2 World Champions -riders Van Den Bosch and Adrien Chareyre, manufacturer Husqvarna and team Husqvarna CH Racing- Marcel Seurat Award winner Edgardo Borella, Journalist of the Year Davide Messora. Among the organizers Pleven took the Best Organizer Award, Salou and Port Aventura won the Best Infrastructure Award, Andorra won the Best Motorsports Interaction Award -due to the active presence of several Champions of motorsports such as WRC driver Hirvonen and MotoGP winner Toni Elias. Max Manzo instead took a special career award, having moved successfully from riding to team management.

Port Aventura was awarded for their top class infrastructure

The 2009 FIM Awards also handed out the first ever “Trofeo Nestor Jorge” dedicated to the best home rider in the Grand Prix’s held in Spain. The prize, which is named after the most successful Spaniard in Supermoto Nestor Jorge -now in coma after an accident at last year’s Austrian GP- was given to Francesc Cucharrera taking ninth overall in S1 at Salou.
