Best Spanish SuperMoto racer to receive “Trofeo Nestor Jorge” at Salou |
FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 04 November 2009 – Starting from the Catalan GP in Salou, the best placed home rider on Spanish ground will be handed a special prize, the “Trofeo Nestor Jorge” (Nestor Jorge Trophy), named after the most successful Spaniard in the FIM SuperMoto World Championship. Next weekend at Salou the Catalan GP will get underway to mark the end of the 2009 Grand Prix season. The event will finish with the FIM Off Road Awards where the Trofeo Nestor Jorge will be handed out for the first time. Nestor Jorge onboard the Husaberg in 2005 This special award is a tribute to Nestor Jorge, the most successful Spaniard in the history of the FIM SuperMoto World Championship courtesy of one Grand Prix win, three heat wins and another podium appearance. His career was suddenly stopped by a severe crash at the Austrian Grand Prix at Greinbach in August 2008 – Nestor is in a coma since then. Nestor Jorge is currently the sole Spaniard to have broken into the top three of a Grand Prix and to have won moto’s. In 2006 Jorge moved on to Honda The Trofeo Nestor Jorge will be handed out only at the Grand Prix’s held on Spanish ground and it will award the best placed home rider in the overall Grand Prix classification. The Catalan GP in Salou would be the first occasion to see a Spaniard being awarded in the memory of Nestor Jorge.
