2010 FIM SuperMoto World Championship S1 German Grand Prix returns this weekend at Sankt Wendel
FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 7 July 2010 – 
Round one saw a tough battle for the overall win in between eventual winner Thierry Van Den Bosch and Italian Davide Gozzini, taking second overall. With the duo battling for the victory, Thomas Chareyre kept a distant third position in all three heats and completed the podium at his maiden race on TM. Entering his home Grand Prix, German Bernd Hiemer is motivated to improve on his fourth place as Adrien Chareyre completes the top five.
Austrian Lukas Hoellbacher leads the UEM S3 class while Uros Nastran leads the Open class.
S1
A tough fight for victory in between Van Den Bosch and Gozzini made it a hard opening round for the 2010 FIM SuperMoto World Championship which promises a season of exciting racing.
PMR H2O Aprilia Racing’s Van Den Bosch eventually came out on top of the Italian Grand Prix to maintain the red plate on his machine. The French, who won his fourth Title last year, has a tight three point advantage over Gozzini, but his victory at the last German Grand Prix at Sankt Wendel in 2007 is a confidence booster ahead of this weekend.
On the other hand, 747 Motorsport TM Racing Factory’s Gozzini had a terrible German outing in 2007 as he missed the podium and struggled in both heats. Having now switched to a 450cc TM, the Italian may be more at ease on the twisty course and seeks his first victory of 2010 after narrowly losing his home GP to VDB. Gozzini follows Van Den Bosch from second place and has a small three point gap.
The Italian’s teammate Thomas Chareyre had a great debut on the TM in Castelletto as he took a set of third places in the heats to finish third overall. The French was one of the top three riders on Sankt Wendel’s podium in 2007 but this will be his first time there on a TM machine.
As the above mentioned trio dominated the top three at each moto of round one, German Hiemer of Motoracing had to fight tooth and nail for his fourth overall position. With him, Adrien Chareyre and Giovanni Bussei ending level in points, the two time World Champion ended on top but is 26 points off the lead.
Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre was a disappointed fifth in Italy, something he will try to make up for in Germany where he was second on the podium in 2007.
Lazzarini follows Bussei from seventh place, while Hermunen, Sammartin and Balducci complete the top ten.
Winning the 2007 German Grand Prix –but in the S2 class- Delepine is still adapting to the switch to the S1 class and to his new Kawasaki machine. The Belgian is currently in twelfth place.

UEM
The UEM series’ start in Castelletto di Branduzzo saw two riders dominate their classes with a set of three victories each. Austrian Hoellbacher won the S3 class from Dutch Vermeulen. In the Open class instead, Nastran won from Dall’Era and Peroni. Nastran was on the podium in Germany in 2007 and is the clear favourite in these days leading up to round two.
