Turkiye ready to host first round of new format of 2024 FIM Snowcross World Championship
KAYSERI – ERCIYES (Turkiye) 7 March 2024 – The 2024 FIM Snowcross World Championship sparks into life with the opening round this weekend, held for the very first time ever in the nation of Turkiye, at the Kayseri Erciyes Snowcross Center in the mountainous heart of the country!
The first round will see the world’s best Snowcross pilots sink their tracks into the frozen surface of Mount Erciyes, at the most important winter sports facility in Turkiye. Originally set to host the FIM SNX World Championship last year, the event had to be postponed due to the disruption caused by the terrible earthquake in February 2023. So the organising bodies, Anadolu Motor ve Doga Sporlari Kulubu and the Turkiye Motorcycling Federation, are excited to make the event a real spectacle after having to wait so long!
After being run as a single-event Championship for all but one year since 2010, the 2024 series will test the riders further with three rounds across March and April, moving to the more traditional venues of Finland and Norway to complete what is sure to be a historic showdown in the snow!
Competitors from as far afield as the USA, France and Italy will join the Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish mainstays who have dominated the sport since the Championship was established 20 years ago. Turkish racers Galip Alp Baysan and Sakar Senkalaychi will have the local fans behind them as they attempt to break into the top positions on home ground!
Reigning champion Aki Pihlaja will not be lining up in Turkiye due to personal reasons, so front runners like Norway’s Magnus Reiten and Sweden’s Martin Johansson will be looking to take advantage of his absence and build a solid points total at the start of the Championship!
