DE PUNIET MAKES HIS DEBUT ABOARD THE 2010 RC212V AT SEPANG

The first official MotoGP Test of the year started yesterday in Malaysia with the 17 riders involved in the development of the new 2010 prototypes. Following a two month winter layoff the MotoGP World Championship riders returned to action at the 5.548km Sepang circuit for the two days of testing putting their new bikes through their paces with Rossi on the top of the timesheets with a best lap time of 2’00.925.

On Thursday the Malaysian track opened for testing at 09.00 and continued through a warm humid day until rain showers fell at 16.30 ending the session 30 minutes early. Today’s air temperature reached 31°C but once again the typical tropical rain affected the last day of testing since early morning. The LCR Honda MotoGP racer Randy De Puniet made his debut aboard the new RCV and got back on track in preparation for the forthcoming season. The Frenchman completed 62 laps on Thursday working with his technicians to improve the chassis and the suspension settings of his Honda machinery. He was on a long run when the rain came but today’s he has been back to his set up work (48 laps) trying several adjustments to make a step up in his machine performance. De Puniet posted his best lap time of 2’03.043 riding his Hond a to the 13^th position and will return to the Malaysian track at the end of February for further pre-season testing.

De Puniet: “The first outing on the new bike has been a bit tough for us. The bike looks good but after few laps I felt that the feeling was quite nervous. So we have worked a lot on the set up especially on chassis regulations and suspension settings. After that I could ride with much confidence and we have started a long run gaining a god pace on hard tyres. This morning we have been trying several adjustments… some were good but much work has yet to be done. We rode another long run today (about 17 laps) and, at the end of the day, I went out on soft tyre but the surface temperature was not as good as I expected. I know that the 13^th position is not brilliant but we did not look for the ultimate laps time. We gathered important data for the next test session to have clear ideas about the direction we have to follow”.

Il primo test ufficiale della classe MotoGP si è concluso oggi in Malesia con i 17 piloti ufficiali impegnati nello sviluppo dei nuovi prototipi 2010. Dopo uno stop di due mesi i piloti della classe regina sono tornati in azione sui 5.548 Km del tracciato Malesiano per due giorni di test (4-5 Feb.) alla ricerca della messa a punto migliore e Rossi si conferma ancora velocissimo con il miglior tempo di 2’00.925.

Giovedì alle 9.00 del mattino i piloti erano già in pista e hanno continuato il loro lavoro sfidando le temperature tropicali e l’elevata umidità ma alle 16.30 un acquazzone si è abbattuto sulla pista costringendo i piloti ed i team a terminare le prove con mezzora di anticipo. Oggi la temperatura ha raggiunto i 31° e, ancora una volta, la pioggia tropicale tipica della zona ha condizionato l’ultimo giorno di test sin dalle prime ore del  mattino. Il pilota del Team LCR Honda MotoGP Randy De Puniet ha fatto il suo debutto in sella alla Honda RC212V versione 2010 ed è tornato in pista in preparazione al campionato che sta per iniziare. Il Francese ha completato 62 giri nel primo giorno di prove concentrandosi con i suoi tecnici sulle sospensioni e le regolazioni del telaio facendo anche una s imulazione di gara ma ha dovuto interrompere a causa della pioggia battente. Tornato in pista oggi Randy ha completato 48 giri fermando il crono in 2’03.043 (13° tempo) e sarà di nuovo in pista sempre a Sepang alla fine del mese per provare le modifiche del caso.

De Puniet: “La prima uscita in sella alla nuova moto è stata un po’ difficoltosa per noi. La moto mi è parsa subito competitiva ma dopo pochi giri ho sentito che era troppo nervosa. Quindi abbiamo lavorato molto sulle sospensioni e sul telaio e a quel punto sono riuscito a guidare con maggior confidenza. Il primo giorno abbiamo anche fatto una simulazione di gara trovando un buon passo con i pneumatici. Questa mattina siamo tornati in pista facendo tesoro dei dati raccolti ieri e abbiamo apportato diverse modifiche … alcune hanno funzionato ma c’è ancora molto lavoro da fare. Abbiamo fatto un altro long run di circa 17 giri e, verso sera, ho montato le coperture morbide ma l a temperatura dell’asfalto era troppo elevata. Lo so che il 13° posto non è esaltante ma noi non eravamo alla ricerca del tempone ma di una messa a punto di base da poter sviluppare in futuro. Abbiamo raccolto dati utili per il prossimo test per chiarirci le idee sulla direzione da seguire”.
