Jernej Irt clinched a double win in France

CASTELNAU DE LEVIS (France), 11 April 2010 – Slovenian rider Jernej Irt from the Italian team Husqvarna Cross 2 R was dominating at the second event for the UEM EMX2 European Championship in France. His teammate Andrea Cervellin finished second and took his maiden EMX2 podium, French rider Steven Lenoir was third.

The track was selective so the race was very interesting. Steven Lenoir (Suzuki) took a good first start, Alexander Eriksson was following him with the KTM. When two Husqvarnas Irt and Cervellin started to pass riders in front, they were unstoppable. Irt won and Cervellin was second.

In the second race there was a similar situation on the top. Irt took a fast start and he was leading almost from the beginning. Irt showed his power one more time and nobody could beat him. The closest rider to Irt was Cervellin again. Valentin Guillod from Switzerland finished third after Cervellin passed him in the second half of the heat.

Jernej Irt became the winner of the second EMX2 event and he is the new leader of the EMX2 European Championship. Andrea Cervellin finished second, although he prefers softer tracks. Home rider Steven Lenoir was third, Valentin Guillod fourth and Italian Pier Filippo Bertuzzo (KTM) finished top five.

Next event for the UEM EMX2 Championship will be on 23 May in Bulgaria.

EMX150 European Championship

Fourteen year Swedish rider Johan Remmelg won the opening round of the new category EMX150 European Championship. Italian Michele Cervellin, brother of EMX2 rider Andrea Cervellin was riding on the first position till the last lap of the first heat. Then he crashed at the jump and could not start the bike again. When Italian was desperately trying to start the bike again, other riders passed him and Remmelg took the win in the first heat. Cervellin improved his position with the win in the second heat. Cervellin finished second overall. Third was Adam Sterry from Great Britain.

RIDER’S COMMENT

1st JERNEJ IRT (Slovenia) : “I had a wonderful weekend. In the Qualifying race I was riding fast yesterday. Today I took two fast starts and I had a good feeling on the track. I was here two years ago so I know the track from before. I like this track because I ride on hard tracks. I am satisfied with my riding and with the bike, which was working perfect the whole weekend. I am in a difficult situation now because I am leading the championship. I will have a lot of work to keep the top position.”

2nd ANDREA CERVELLIN (Italy): “I am happy to take the first podium in the EMX2 European Championship. Finally all the things were running good till the end and I finished second. In Portugal I had problems with the bike and today I would like thank to my mechanics for their work here in France. Thank to the whole team Husqvarna Cross 2 R. I was riding here two years ago and then I got the injury. So today I will leave this place with better memories.”

3rd STEVEN LENOIR (France): “First heat was good, in the second I was very tired. Anyway today was a successful day. At the first race in Portugal I had technical problems. Today was better but still there is a lot to improve. After two races I know other riders better and I know what I must to do to be better in the future. I ride a standard bike and actually I am surprised that my Suzuki works so good. Husqvarna riders are very fast and I think the strongest at the moment, but I would like to come close to the best.”
