Papenmeier’s first victory in the FIM WMX Championship

In Motocross

TEUTSCHENTHAL (GERMANY), 20 June 2010 – Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Papenmeier got her first ever round victory in the FIM Women’s World Championship in front of 35.000 spectators. Chiara Fontanesi finished second, after achieving second moto’s victory, and Livia Lancelot completed the podium with a double third place. Championship leader Stephanie Laier did not have an easy weekend at home but she still managed fourth overall.

Larissa Papenmeier had a perfect weekend in Teutschenthal winning the first race on Saturday and being second in the last moto. The German rider starred in a tight second moto finale and crossed the finish line less than a second behind Fontanesi as she did not know she was already the virtual round winner with that second position. Chiara Fontanesi was eighth on Saturday but she managed to get a good start in the second moto riding after Stephanie Laier, who was the first one to go past the first turn of the German track.

KTM HDI MX’s Lancelot succeeded in being on the third step of the podium after not an outstanding performance in her home round in France. The French rider was able to get two good starts in both races and she managed to keep her rhythm throughout the two motos. However, she is still not 100% satisfied with her results as her goal is riding for the victory and closing the gap with Laier in the championship’s standings.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier had an unfortunate weekend at home suffering from two painful crashes already in the qualifying practice and bumping into a lapped rider in the second moto getting her helmet hit while recovering from the clash. She was fourth overall.

Stephanie Laier keeps being the FIM WMX leader 40 points ahead Lancelot, who is now followed by this weekend’s winner Larissa Papenmeier. Fourth is Chiara Fontanesi and fifth is Diga KTM’s Franke, who got an overall fifth position after finishing fourth in both heats.
