First round of the Internazionali d’Italia MX SDV 2017 series today in Sardinia, on Riola Sardo (OR) sand track, under a spring sun, with temperatures that reached 18 degrees. Great show for all the classes in race, starting with the 125cc, until the prestigious Elite class, which saw the top 20 of the MX2 and MX1, in a heat of World level, in which Tony Cairoli (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), has dominated from the start to the finish line on the difficult Sardinian sand.
125
In the eighth of a liter class, beautiful and close races, after which Gianluca Facchetti (Husqvarna) clinched the first victory of the season. Started in front of everyone in the first race, after claiming the Just1 Hole-Shot, the Italian tried to escape but ran immediately into a crash that made him move back in ninth place. It was Manucci Alessandro (Husqvarna) who took the lead, keeping it until the end of the moto, while behind him Emilio Scuteri (Celestini KTM) exceeded Matteo del Coco (Husqvarna), in second place. With a great comeback Facchetti climbed up to third place, passing Scuteri and clinching the second place, keeping it to the finish. In race two, Just1 Hole-Shot for Manucci, which gives the position in the second lap to Facchetti, started behind him, while behind them Alessandro Facca (KTM Marchetti Racing), Emilio Scuteri and Emil Weckman (JTech Suzuki), put on a show for the third position. Facchetti crossed the finish line first, ahead Manucci, Weckman and Scuteri, that conquered his first podium in the 125, behind Facchetti and Manucci first and second on the podium.
MX2
In MX2 first unexpected win for Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing). The young Spanish, fastest in the practice, started in the lead, scoring the Just1 Hole-Shot, giving from the first corner a fast pace to the race. Behind him, his team mate Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), who started second, went soon attacked by Benoit Paturel (Kemea Yamaha Yamalube Racing), who passed him during the fourth lap. The French began to push to go to regain the leader but it was to late, while Jonass, attacked by Alvin Ostlund (Kemea Yamaha Yamalube Racing), lost the third position, finishing the race in fourth. Good race for Michele Cervellin (Honda HRC MX2), who after starting outside the top ten, has reassembled until the final fifth position.
MX1
Absolute domination for Tony Cairoli (KTM Red Bull Factory Racing) in the race for the premier class. The eight-time World Champion, credited the seventh time in practice, started strongly, cornering first and winning the Just1 Hole-Shot and taking off already in the first lap, giving to the race a hellish pace. Behind the Sicilian, Tim Gajser (Honda HRC MXGP), who started from the pole position, followed throughout the race, then, just when the gap from the lead was thinning, ran into a crash that relegated him in third place, behind Jeremy Van Horebeek (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory). Fourth, after passing Evgeny Bobryshev (Honda HRC MXGP), the Frenchman Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory), which closes in front of the Russian who ended fifth. Big race for Tannel Leok (Husqvarna Ottobiano), sixth and first privateer.
ELITE
The class that provides a prize pool of € 120,000 has seen Tony Cairoli dominating once again. Dramatic moments after the start, when Michele Cervellin (Honda HRC MX2), Benoit Paturel (Kemea Yamaha Yamalube Racing), Davide Bonini (KTM) and Ken Bengston (Yamaha) collides, falling down and forced to retire. Without leaving any chance to the rivals, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing slipped away with a fast lap after another, taking off from the very first corners, leaving behind him Jeremy Van Horebeek (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory), Tim Gajser (Honda HRC MXGP ), and Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory) to fight for the remaining podium positions. During the tenth lap the Slovenian, reigning Champion of MXGP, could bridge the gap with the Belgian, passing him, just before crashing, giving back the second place again. Cairoli crossed the finish line in front of Van Horebeek, Gajser, Bobrysev (Honda HRC MXGP) and Glen Coldenhoff (RedBull KTM Racing Factroy). First classified rider of the MX2 class, Pauls Jonass (RedBull KTM Factroy Racing) sixth, while Romain Febvre had been forced to retire after a violent crash in which he reported a concussion.
