Great weekend for Valentin Guillod

In Motocross

SENKVICE (SLOVAKIA), 20 June 2010 – KTM rider Valentin Guillod (Switzerland) took a double win in Slovakia. Michael Mercandino (Italy) was second, Steven Lenoir (Vamo Racing) was third. Sunday in Senkvice was sunny and many spectators were supporting riders all around the track.

First three riders took same positions in both races. Guillod took the overall win with two perfect races, Mercandino finished second and Lenoir was third in both races. Guillod did not take a holeshot but he came in the lead soon both times. Rider from the team KTM Swiss was just unbeatable this weekend.

Michael Mercandino took two podiums in two weeks. After success in Czech Republic now he proved his good form also in Slovakia. Although he crashed in the first race, it did not stop him on the way to the second place. Steven Lenoir was riding with injured palm of hand. He was leading at the beginning of the first race but finished third because Guillod and Mercandino were stronger.

Holder of the EMX2 red plate Andrea Cervellin (Husqvarna Cross 2 R) crashed in the first race. He could not continue because he got a blow in the knee, so he had to stop in the eighth lap and did not take points. This was good opportunity for his teammate Jernej Irt (Slovenia), who could celebrate his birthday with the red plate. Irt finished fourth in the first race. In the second race Cervellin was more successful and finished fourth, while Irt was sixth.

Andrea Cervellin is still leader of the EMX2 European Championship but his advantage decreased from 21 to only 7 points. Also Lenoir gained points to Irt. Lenoir is still third and he need only 5 more points to become second in the Championship.

Seventh round of the UEM EMX2 European Championship will be in La Baneza – Spain on the July 4.

RIDER’S COMMENTS

1st – VALENTIN GUILLOD (Switzerland): “What can I say, it was just perfect! I won two times and took my first overall win. First start was not really good but I stayed concentrated and I won first race. Then I won also second one. Already yesterday I won the Qualifying Race so I don’t know what to say more. I am looking forward to the next round in Spain. Thank to my team for everything.”

2nd – MICHAEL MERCANDINO (Italy): “I am very satisfied with the weekend. In first race I started fourth, then I crashed and fortunately finished second just behind Guillod. Also in second race I made second result and I took second position overall. The track was technically pretentious what I like. It has many jumps and I found myself very well here in Senkvice.”

3rd – STEVEN LENOIR (France): “Today was quite difficult for me. I crashed in the Qualifying Race yesterday and today I had a big pain in right palm of hand. I had good first start and I was fighting during the race so I finished third. Second race was a bit dusty and I did not have a good feeling, I finished third again. I have been riding here for the first time. The track was difficult but I like it, there were many lines.”
