In less than three weeks the Goldentyre Sardegna Rally Race will start – this year’s edition is also a bit glittery as the legendary rally will celebrate its tenth birthday.
Although no longer part of the FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship, the Goldentyre Sardegna Rally Race, scheduled from 10 to 15 June, will not give up any of the features that made it one of the most popular and enjoyable rally races in the world. And not only that: ask the riders which is their most beloved race and they will talk to you about Sardegna. The Sardinian nature is breathtaking, though the complex navigation and rough terrain are breathtaking as well.
Coast to Coast and … back!
The riders will tackle five stages of more than 1300 km, discovering the most hidden corners of Sardinia, from dirt roads to perilous mule tracks, generously immersed in the smell of the Mediterranean shrub. The rally will go underway at San Teodoro, the base of the Bike Village, which will, as usual, host the preliminary phase of the Goldentyre Sardegna Rally Race. On Sunday, June 11, the first of the five legs will cross the Island from east to west to Arborea, where the next day a loop stage will serve as the preamble for the marathon stop, a must also this year. The famous bivouac of Sa Itria, where time has stopped ages ago, will connect the two legs of the marathon stage – a tough trial for man and machine, as no mechanical assistance is allowed. The compensation will come in the form of a magical atmosphere of the ancient convent and the delicacies of Sardinian cuisine. The caravan will then return to San Teodoro, where the fifth stage on June 15 will decide the winner of the legendary tenth edition.
Dream Prize Money and Awards
Money prizes are not common in rallies, but Bike Village wanted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Goldentyre Sardinia Rally Race by rewarding the best riders:
Award for the 1st Classified Rider: € 5.000,00
Award for the 2nd Classified Rider: € 3.000,00
Award for the 3rd Classified Rider: € 2.000,00
4th prize for the Best Classified Rider in the Goldentyre Sardegna Rally Race, who has never been ranked among the top ten in any International Rally: Free Entry for the Rally PANAFRICA in October
A Race in the Race
At the third stage of the international Sardinian Rally Race, the Italian Raid TT Championship will join the international caravan. After the Abruzzi trials Jacopo Cerutti, author of a hat-trick, tops the Italian classification, followed by Alessandro Botturi and Maurizio Gerini. A race in the race will give an extra spin to the Goldentyre Sardegna Rally Race and spice up the competition.
