Encouraging outlook for Vista AF Corse with the two Ferrari 296 GT3 fighting for the FIA WEC

Following a successful round in Qatar, Vista AF Corse has completed two days of official testing at the Imola circuit, spanning Sunday, March 10, and Monday, March 11 2024. The Imola test was scheduled in preparation for the upcoming round 2 of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Building on the valuable insights gained during the team’s performance in Qatar, Vista AF Corse is ready to implement key learnings. The focus lies on refining strategies, reviewing the car setup, and optimizing the overall performance ahead of Imola, which is featured to take place on Sunday, April 21 2024.

After an exciting start in Qatar, for the first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship

(WEC) featuring the two Ferrari 296 GT3 by Vista AF Corse, Ferrari’s reference team in the LMGT3 class of the world championship. The cars number 54 and 55 – in the iconic VistaJet silver and red colors – finished the 1,812 Km of Qatar in fifth and seventh place. A double placement in the top ten and, more importantly, a performance that carries a promising outlook: there is great potential for the rest of the season in terms of cars, drivers and team.

Under the checkered flag, car 54 finished in fifth place with Thomas Flohr, Francesco

Castellacci and Davide Rigon (official Ferrari driver). Car 55 crossed the line in P7 with Simon Mann, François Heriau and Alessio Rovera (official Ferrari driver). Both crews were among the protagonists at every stage of the first round of the FIA WEC 2024. In qualifying, Flohr and Heriau gained access to the Hyperpole (which established the first five rows of the grid) where Flohr managed to further improve his position, securing the third fastest time. In the race, both teams fought for the leading positions from the start and throughout the 10 hours, with several forays into the top three positions. Rigon also won the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, as the fastest driver in the average of the two best race stints.

Francesco Castellacci: “We are satisfied with the P5 in this first race of the season. We scored some important points with a finish in the top 3, and the pace of Thomas and Davide was amazing. Unfortunately, an issue in communication with race control during the Full Course Yellow procedure, while Thomas was at the wheel, made us lose approximately 45 seconds. I want to thank the Vista AF Corse team and Ferrari for giving us a car that was amazing to drive. We will now prepare for the next round in Imola in front of thousands of “tifosi”. I cannot wait!”.

Davide Rigon: “We had a great race, almost perfect in terms of my personal performance. This year the level of the FIA WEC is really high, with 18 LMGT3 class cars racing, and on the eve of the season, I was quite intimidated. Thomas did a fantastic job, making no mistakes despite the high temperatures. Francesco also had a great race. I am happy to have won the Goodyear Wingfoot Award as the best driver in the average lap time. I also want to mention the great job done by the guys at Vista AF Corse, who managed to prepare a very fast set-up for the new car, which performed very well. It was just a pity that we lost about 45″ due to a Full Course Yellow. The podium was possible for us today”.

François Heriau: “We had an average race – the result is not so bad, but it’s not the one we were expecting. We scored some good points, but we have some stuff to analyze. It’s still a very good base to work on, and for sure we will come back stronger in the next race”.

Simon Mann: “Overall we had a good start to the race, even if there were some negatives. We take the positives as a great motivation, but we also look at the negatives to learn from them. Now we focus on Imola!”.

Alessio Rovera: “I am happy to have scored a few points for the standings, although I think we had the potential to aim for a podium. It’s a shame, because our Ferrari 296 GT3 was perfectly at ease on this track, so we missed an opportunity. We hope to find redemption at Imola!”.

Prospettiva incoraggiante per Vista AF Corse con le due Ferrari 296 GT3 in lotta per il mondiale endurance

Concluso con successo il primo appuntamento stagionale in Qatar, il team Vista AF Corse ha appena terminato una due giorni di test ufficiali sul circuito di Imola, in programma domenica 10 e lunedì 11 marzo 2024. Questo test è stato pianificato in preparazione al secondo round del FIA World Endurance Championship.

Le due Ferrari 296 GT3 schierate da Vista AF Corse, team di riferimento Ferrari nella classe LMGT3 del mondiale, hanno chiuso la 1812 KM del Qatar al quinto e settimo posto. Un doppio risultato di rilievo in top ten ma, ancora più importante, una prestazione che imprime una consapevolezza: c’è grande potenziale per il resto della stagione, sia in termini di vettura che di piloti e di squadra.

Sotto la bandiera a scacchi, la numero 54 ha chiuso in quinto posto con Thomas Flohr,

Francesco Castellacci e Davide Rigon (pilota ufficiale Ferrari). La vettura gemella con il numero 55 ha tagliato il traguardo in P7 con Simon Mann, François Heriau e Alessio Rovera (pilota ufficiale Ferrari). Entrambi gli equipaggi sono stati protagonisti del primo round del mondiale in ogni fase. Nelle qualifiche, Thomas Flohr e François Heriau hanno conquistato l’accesso alla Hyperpole (che ha stabilito le prime cinque file della griglia di partenza), dove Flohr è riuscito a migliorare ulteriormente la propria posizione, assicurandosi il terzo riferimento cronometrico. Fin dall’inizio e per tutte le 10 ore della gara entrambe le formazioni hanno lottato per le posizioni di testa, con diverse incursioni entro le prime tre posizioni.

Rigon ha vinto il Goodyear Wingfoot Award, assegnato al pilota più veloce nella media dei due migliori stint di gara.

Thomas Flohr: “Sono davvero entusiasta dai notevoli risultati ottenuti dalla Ferrari con la nuova 296 GT3. Fin dall’inizio la vettura è stata molto competitiva e ha dato grande fiducia a tutti i piloti Vista AF Corse. Il passaggio dalla 488 GTE alla 296 GT3 ha segnato un salto significativo, con un’aerodinamica migliorata e un motore V6 che trasforma completamente l’esperienza di guida.

È impressionante anche studiare i dati in tempo reale generati dalla nuova auto e le informazioni che fornisce. Correre per quasi 10 ore aumenta il livello di competizione del WEC – quest’anno un vero e proprio campionato mondiale dei costruttori. Non vedo l’ora di spingere al massimo a Imola per inseguire un altro successo con la Ferrari 296 GT3 del team Vista AF Corse”.

Francesco Castellacci: “Siamo soddisfatti di aver ottenuto il quinto posto in questa prima gara della stagione, ottenendo punti importanti. Avevamo il passo per finire sul podio, Thomas e Davide sono stati velocissimi. Purtroppo un problema in fase di Full Course Yellow ci ha fatto perdere circa 45 secondi. Voglio ringraziare Vista AF Corse e Ferrari per averci fornito un’auto competitiva e bellissima da guidare. Ora la nostra concentrazione è volta ad Imola, dove attendiamo migliaia di tifosi. Non vedo l’ora!”

Davide Rigon: “È stata una gran bella gara, quasi perfetta per quanto riguarda la mia prestazione personale. Quest’anno il livello del FIA WEC è veramente altissimo, con 18 vetture di classe LMGT3. Alla vigilia della stagione ero abbastanza intimorito, ma Thomas ha fatto un lavoro incredibile, senza commettere errori nonostante le alte temperature. Anche Francesco ha disputato un’ottima gara. Sono contento di aver vinto il Goodyear Wingfoot Award come miglior pilota nella media sul giro. Voglio anche sottolineare l’ottimo lavoro dei ragazzi di Vista AF Corse, bravissimi a preparare una macchina che si è comportata molto bene. Peccato solo aver perso circa 45” a causa di una Full Course Yellow. Il podio era a portata di mano”.

Simon Mann: “Abbiamo avuto una buona partenza, ma ci sono stati momenti non semplici da gestire. Da un lato dobbiamo prendere tutte le note positive come la grande motivazione che abbiamo, dall’altro non possiamo trascurare quelle negative, in modo tale da imparare dagli errori. La concentrazione è sulla gara di Imola”.

François Heriau: “Abbiamo avuto una corsa nella media, con un risultato positivo ma ben distante dalle nostre aspettative. Abbiamo portato a casa tanti punti preziosi. Ci sono molte cose da analizzare e da migliorare ma la base di partenza è ottima e sono sicuro che saremo già più forti ad Imola”.

Alessio Rovera: “Sono contento di aver portato a casa qualche punto per la classifica, anche se ritengo che il potenziale fosse sufficiente per puntare ad un podio. Peccato, perché la nostra Ferrari 296 GT3 era perfettamente a proprio agio su questa pista, e abbiamo perso un’occasione. Speriamo di trovare il riscatto ad Imola!”
