30 years ago, the Swede became wold champion in an Audi Quattro. With this car as 0-car, he’ll participate in the January Rallye/ From among all holders of Rallye Passes, two places as passengers will be determined by draw.
Last week, the 67-year-old Swede, Stig Blomqvist , finished a fantastic second in the infamous East African Safari Classic Rallye in Kenia after a dramatic duel for seconds with local hero Ian Duncan. At the start into the last day, Duncan, after 1759 evaluation kilometers and 4000 kilometers total, had a lead over Blomqvist of only 9 seconds. Then Blomqvist in his Porsche 911 put himself at the head of the field again and managed to gain a lead of 38 seconds. The win within reach, tire damage then set him back into second position.
Next year’s January Rallye ( January 3-5, 2014), again with start and finish in Freistadt, will be the next assignment for the Swedish rallye legend who, in an Audi Quattro, became Rallye World Champion in 1984 and later Vice-World Champion.
By now, Blomqvist has become a much appreciated active participant in the January Rallye. Altogether, he has taken part eight times in this Austrian classic and, on aggregate, has achieved 5th place (2009), 12th place (2013), and 15th place (2012).
In as much as the 30th anniversary of his World-Championship title is upcoming, he has decided to take part in the rallye with t h e Audi Quattro as 0-advance car in which he used to have his great successes. His fellow Swede, Robert Jakobsson, will be acting as his co-driver.
The Rallye Club Mühlviertel as organizer of the January Rallye has decided to offer to holders of Rallye Passes the possibillity to win two seats as passengers with Blomqvist during Shakedown on January 3 in Freistadt (Trölsberg between 10.00 hrs. and 15.00 hrs.) The winners will be determined by draw on the basis of Rallye Pass numbers and will be notified in time.
