CERRUTTI, PAULIN ET TOMECEK S’IMPOSENT SUR L’AFRICA ECO RACE 2024
Manfred KROISS, avait annoncé hier soir au briefing que cette 11ème spéciale de l’édition 2024 ne serait pas facile , tant au niveau de la navigation que du terrain. Comme souvent, le Directeur Sportif de l’AFRICA ECO RACE avait raison mais les leaders des différentes catégories n’ont pas craqué et ont conservé leurs avantages sur les 247 km du jour.
Dans la catégorie Moto, Pol TARRES ne voulait laisser à personne le soin de s’imposer sur cette ultime spéciale. Le bouillant Andorran a fait parler la poudre au guidon de sa YAMAHA 700 Ténéré en s’adjugeant le scratch 00:07:33 devant la KTM 450 du surprenant pilote français Attilio FERT, auteur d’une fin de rallye de toute beauté. En prenant la troisième place à 2 minutes et surtout en devançant son compatriote Alessandro BOTTURI, l’Italien Jacopo CERRUTI remporte cette 15ème édition de l’AFRICA ECO RACE et offre à APRILIA une première victoire sur un grand rallye Tout Terrain.
Les deux pilotes officiels YAMAHA Alessandro BOTTURI et Pol TARRES terminent respectivement 2ème et 3ème à 00:06 38 et 00:18:21. Des temps très proches après plus de 4000 kilomètres de spéciale et donc une bataille de chaque i
nstant durant deux semaines sur les pistes. Derrière les trois « Twin », on retrouve la révélation de cette AFRICA ECO RACE sur deux roues, à savoir Alexandre VAUDAN. Au guidon d’une KTM, le Suisse remporte non seulement la catégorie 450 mais également le challenge « Rookie Rider By Acerbis » réservé aux pilotes de moins de 35 ans n’ayant jamais participé à un rallye de plus de 8 jours.
La catégorie plus de 450 revient à l’Italien Giovanni STIGLIANO sur HUSQVARNA, 17ème au général. La première pilote féminine est la Britannique Vanessa RUCK qui place sa KTM en 27ème position du classement moto. Le premier Junior, pilote de moins de 25 ans, est l’italien Marco MENICHINI, 7ème du général sur une HUSQVARNA alors que le premier Vétéran, pilote de plus de 40 ans, n’est autre qu’Alessandro BOTTURI. Un mot enfin sur l’exploit de cette quinzaine africaine puisque Joan PREDRERO a réussi le pari d’amener la HARLEY DAVIDSON 1250 Pan America officielle à Dakar et surtout, en étant classé en 25ème position. Personne n’y croyait et pourtant il l’a fait !
A noter la qualité du plateau moto cette année puisque sur 47 pilotes au départ de Monaco le 30 décembre dernier, 34 seront classés à l’arrivée demain au Lac Rose pour la cérémonie de remise des récompenses.
Chez les autos, Pascal FERYN et Kurt KEYSERS ont mis un point d’honneur à remporter cette dernière spéciale. Avec leur TOYOTA Hilux 
V8, les Belges devancent de 00:04:24 le SSV CAN AM des Portugais Ricardo SOUSA et Jorge BRANDAO, confortant ainsi leur 2ème place au général et s’offrent la victoire en Auto. Un objectif atteint pour cet équipage qui courrait sur l’ex 4×4 de Jacky LOOMANS, décédé la semaine dernière d’une longue maladie. Une belle façon de rendre hommage à ce pilote belge de talent.
En 3ème position de cette dernière spéciale, on retrouve Pierre-Louis LOUBET et François BORSOTTO sur leur APACHE. Un dernier baroude d’honneur pour le Champion du Monde WRC2 qui a connu quelques soucis de jeunesse du véhicule. Sans cela, il aurait certainement fait mieux que cette 11ème place finale. Fort heureusement, le deuxième SSV de cette jeune équipe APACHE AUTOMOTIVE n’a connu aucun problème et cette fiabilité, ajoutée à un excellent niveau de performance de cette nouvelle technologie Hybride, a permis à Gautier PAULIN et Remi BOULANGER de s’imposer en Auto, SSV et Camion. Une victoire exceptionnelle pour cette légende du Motocross Français qui participait à sa première course derrière un volant. Une victoire incroyable aussi pour un nouveau SSV construit par une équipe française qui n’avait jamais participé à aucune course. Là encore, personne ne les attendait à pareille fête mais la domination a été totale avec 7 victoires sur 11 étapes, dont 5 pour LOUBET. Au final, l’équipage N°260 remporte l’AFRICA ECO RACE avec 03:45:08 d’avance sur le deuxième et sans avoir écopé de la moindre pénalité. Un san
s-faute !
Chez les mastodontes du désert, Tomas TOMECEK l’emporte en finissant 4ème au général. Le Tchèque, seul dans son « vieux » TATRA remporte ainsi sa 5ème victoire sur l’AFRICA ECO RACE. Il devance les Hollandais Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VAN VESLEN et Marco SIEMONS qui s’imposent aujourd’hui et pointent du coup en 5ème position au général avec leur SCANIA. Le GINAF de Cédric FERYN, Bjorn BURGELMAN et Tom DE LEEUW complètent le podium du jour et de l’épreuve.
Dans la course Classic, Tom et Eric CLAYS remportent l’épreuve au terme des 27 Zones de Régularité et des plus de 1000 km de pistes avec une domination sans partage. Pour ses 70 ans, le pilote belge aura l’honneur de hisser son TOYOTA BJ 73 de 1986 sur le podium afin de recevoir le trophée de cette première AFRICA ECO RACE CLASSIC.
Demain, dimanche 14 janvier 2024, après une dernière liaison de 248 km vers le mythique Lac Rose et une dernière spéciale sur la plage pour le fun, les lauréats et finishers monteront un à un sur le podium pour recevoir les trophées et médailles de l’AFRICA ECO RACE 2024.
CERRUTTI, PAULIN, AND TOMECEK DOMINATE THE AFRICA ECO RACE 2024
Manfred KROISS announced last night during the briefing that the 11th stage of the 2024 edition would not be easy, both in terms of navigation and terrain. As often is the case, the Sports Director of the AFRICA ECO RACE was right, but the leaders in different categories did not falter and maintained their advantages over the 247 km of the day.
In the Motorcycle category, Pol TARRES was determined not to let anyone else take the victory in this final stage. The spirited Andorran 
showed his prowess on his YAMAHA 700 Ténéré, securing the stage win with a time of 00:07:33, ahead of the KTM 450 of the surprising French rider Attilio FERT, who had a beautiful rally finish. By taking the third place, just 2 minutes behind and notably ahead of his fellow countryman Alessandro BOTTURI, Italian Jacopo CERRUTI wins this 15th edition of the AFRICA ECO RACE, providing APRILIA with its first victory in a major off-road rally.
The two official YAMAHA riders, Alessandro BOTTURI and Pol TARRES, finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, with times of 00:06:38 and 00:18:21. These times were very close after more than 4000 kilometers of special stages, showcasing a fierce battle throughout the two-week journey on the tracks. Behind the three “Twin” riders, the revelation of this AFRICA ECO RACE on two wheels is Alexandre VAUDAN. Riding a KTM, the Swiss not only won the 450 category but also the “Rookie Rider By Acerbis” challenge reserved for riders under 35 who had never participated in a rally lasting more than 8 days.
The over-450 category is claimed by Italian Giovanni STIGLIANO on HUSQVARNA, finishing 17th overall. The first female rider is the British Vanessa RUCK, placing her KTM in the 27th position in the motorcycle rankings. The first Ju
nior, under 25 years old, is the Italian Marco MENICHINI, finishing 7th overall on a HUSQVARNA, while the first Veteran, over 40 years old, is none other than Alessandro BOTTURI.
Finally, a word on the feat of this African fortnight as Joan PREDRERO managed to bring the official HARLEY DAVIDSON 1250 Pan America to Dakar and, more importantly, being classified in the 25th position. No one believed it, yet he did it! It’s worth noting the quality of the motorcycle field this year, with 34 out of 47 riders who started in Monaco on December 30 last year being classified at the finish tomorrow at Lac Rose for the awards ceremony.
In 3rd place in this final stage, we find Pierre-Louis LOUBET and François BORSOTTO in their APACHE. A final honorable fight for the WRC2 World Champion, who faced some vehicle issues. Without them, he would have certainly performed better than this 11th overall position. Fortunately, the second SSV of this young APACHE.AUTOMOTIVE team had no problems.
The reliability, combined with the excellent performance level of this new Hybrid technology, allowed Gautier PAULIN and Remi BOULANGER to emerge victorious in the Car, SSV, and Truck categories. An exceptional victory for this French Motocross legend participating in his first race behind the wheel. It’s also an incredible win for a new SSV built by a French team that had never participated in any race. Once again, no one expected them to perform so well, but their dominance was complete with 7 wins out of 11 stages, including 5 
for LOUBET. In the end, crew No. 260 wins the AFRICA ECO RACE with a lead of 03:45:08 over the second, and without incurring any penalties. A flawless performance!
In the desert giants category, Tomas TOMECEK wins by finishing 4th overall. The Czech, alone in his “old” TATRA, thus claims his 5th victory in the AFRICA ECO RACE. He is followed by the Dutch team of Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VAN VESLEN, and Marco SIEMONS, who won today and now stand in 5th position overall with their SCANIA. The GINAF of Cédric FERYN, Bjorn BURGELMAN, and Tom DE LEEUW complete the podium of the day and the event.
In the Classic race, Tom and Eric CLAYS win the event after 27 Regularity Zones and over 1000 km of tracks, demonstrating undisputed dominance.
For his 70th birthday, the Belgian driver will have the honor of raising his 1986 TOYOTA BJ 73 onto the podium to receive the trophy for this inaugural AFRICA ECO RACE CLASSIC.
Tomorrow, Sunday, January 14, 2024, after a final connection of 248 km to the mythical Lac Rose and a final stage on the beach, the winners and finishers will take turns on the podium to receive the trophies and medals of the AFRICA ECO RACE 2024.

Come spesso accade, il Direttore Sportivo dell’AFRICA ECO RACE aveva ragione, ma i leader delle diverse categorie non hanno vacillato e hanno mantenuto i loro vantaggi sui 247 km della giornata.
Nella categoria Moto, Pol TARRES era determinato a non lasciare che nessun altro si aggiudicasse la vittoria in questa tappa finale. Lo spiritoso andorrano ha dimostrato la sua abilità alla guida della sua YAMAHA 700 Ténéré, conquistando la vittoria di tappa con un tempo di 00:07:33, davanti alla KTM 450 del sorprendente pilota francese Attilio FERT, autore di una bella conclusione di rally.
Occupando il terzo posto, a soli 2 minuti e soprattutto battendo il suo connazionale Alessandro BOTTURI, l’italiano Jacopo CERRUTI vince questa 15a edizione dell’AFRICA ECO RACE e regala ad APRILIA la sua prima vittoria in un importante rally tout-terrain.
La categoria oltre i 450 è conquistata dall’italiano Giovanni STIGLIANO su HUSQVARNA, 17° nell

Nella categoria Auto, Pascal FERYN e Kurt KEYSERS hanno fatto di tutto per vincere questa tappa finale. Con la loro TOYOTA Hilux V8, i belgi hanno preceduto di 00:04:24 il SSV CAN AM dei portoghesi Ricardo SOUSA e Jorge BRANDAO, consolidando così il loro 2° posto 
generale e aggiudicandosi la vittoria nella categoria Auto. Un obiettivo raggiunto per questo equipaggio che correva sul vecchio 4×4 di Jacky LOOMANS, scomparso la scorsa settimana dopo una lunga malattia. Un bel modo di rendere omaggio a questo talentuoso pilota belga.
Al 3° posto di questa tappa finale troviamo Pierre-Louis LOUBET e François BORSOTTO sulla loro APACHE. Un’ultima lotta d’onore per il Campione del Mondo WRC2, che ha avuto alcuni problemi giovanili del veicolo. Senza questi problemi, avrebbe certamente ottenuto una prestazione migliore di questa 11a posizione generale. Fortunatamente, il secondo SSV di questa giovane squadra APACHE.AUTOMOTIVE non ha avuto alcun problema. La affidabilità, unita all’eccellente livello di prestazioni di questa nuova tecnologia ibrida, ha permesso a Gautier PAULIN e Remi BOULANGER di imporsi nelle categorie Auto, SSV e Camion. Una vittoria eccezionale per questa leggenda del Motocross francese che partecipava alla sua prima gara al volante. È anche una vittoria incredibile per un nuovo SSV costruito da una squadra francese che non aveva mai partecipato a nessuna gara. Ancora una volta, nessuno si aspettava una tale performance, ma la loro dominazione è stata totale con 7 vittorie su 11 tappe, di cui 5 per LOUBET. Alla fine, l’equipaggio N°260 vince l’AFRICA ECO RACE con un vantaggio di 03:45:08 sul secondo, e senza subire alcuna penalità. Una prestazione impeccabile!
