ÉTAPE N°3 MHAMID / OUED DRAA

AFRICA ECO RACE : LA COURSE EST BIEN LANCÉE

Avec 8 degrés au thermomètre, la température était déjà beaucoup plus clémente ce jeudi 4 janvier , au matin, au départ du bivouac d’Oued Draa situé non loin de Mahmid, haut lieu des Rallyes Raids organisés au Maroc. Toutes les conditions étaient donc réunies pour qu’une belle journée de course puisse avoir lieu.

Alessandro BOTTURI avait le sourire à l’arrivée de la spéciale de 463 km entre Mahmid et Assa. Au guidon de sa YAMAHA 700 Ténéré, le double vainqueur de l’épreuve, venait en effet de remporter l’étape et de reprendre la 2ème place du général à Pol TARRES, le second pilote officiel des bleus. Une belle opération pour le jovial Italien qui a devancé son co-équipier de 00:01:29 sur le secteur chronométré et de 00:00:35 au classement provisoire :

« L’étape était très belle avec des dunes plutôt porteuses mais la navigation n’était pas facile. A partir du kilomètre 210, nous avons rattrapé CERUTTI et roulé avec lui. Hier je trouvais le rythme élevé et je me demandais si j’avais encore l’âge pour rivaliser avec les deux furieux de devant. Aujourd’hui, c’était encore pire et pourtant j’ai roulé avec eux sans problème. On verra pour la suite ce qu’il se passe. »

En terminant 3ème aujourd’hui à 00:02:18, Jacopo CERUTTI reste leader du classement moto au guidon de son APRILIA Touareg 660 avec 00:06:20. L’Italien avait réussi à garder la tête jusqu’à la mi-course mais il s’est fait reprendre suite à une petite erreur de navigation. Il a fallu attendre plus de 30 minutes pour voir arriver les premières 450 dont la HONDA de l’Italien Giovanni GRITTI, la KTM du Suisse Alexandre VAUDAN et l’HUSQVARNA de Guillaume BORNE.Tous trois, séparés de moins de deux minutes sont engagés dans la ROOKIE RIDER BY ACERBIS qui récompensera les meilleurs pilotes de moins de 35 ans, n’ayant jamais participé à aucun grand Rallye Tout Terrain. Pour finir, à signaler la grosse performance de l’Italien Andrea GAVA qui, parti en 33ème position, signe un magnifique 7ème temps au guidon de sa BETA.

Dans la catégorie Auto/SSV/Camion, c’est à nouveau un SSV APACHE qui s’impose sur cette 3ème étape. Cette fois, il s’agit de celui de Gautier PAULIN et Remi BOULANGER qui devance le CAM AM de Heatcliff ZINGRAF et Gregory REVEST pour 00:01:17 et le POLARIS d’Éric SCHIANO et Camille POURCHIER qui redressent bien la barre après leurs soucis de début d’épreuve.

Au général, l’ex champion de Motocross garde le leadership sur quatre roues avec seulement 00:03:35 d’avance sur ZINGRAF. Autant dire que la bataille fait rage alors que derrière, le POLARIS de Frédéric HENRICY et Éric BERSEY pointe à 01:17:23.

Du coté des autos, le TOYOTA des Belges Pascal FERYN et Kurt KEYSERS termine 9ème du scratch à 01 :14 :45 devant l’autre 4X4 du FERYN DAKAR TEAM de Koen WAUTERS et Kris VEN DER STEEN à un peu moins de 15 minutes. Au général provisoire, FEYRIN est leader de la catégorie devant WAUTERS.

Dans la catégorie camion, en terminant en 11ème position de cette 3ème spéciale, le Tchèque Tomas TOMECEK reste leader des mastodontes du désert.

Au niveau de la course Classic, après la deuxième étape composée de 4 secteurs de régularité. Yves LOUBET, le Directeur Sportif de l’épreuve, qui a contribué au retour de cette catégorie historique sur l’AFRICA ECO RACE, commentait ce début de course avec son enthousiasme et son franc-parler légendaire :

« Cette catégorie Classic en Afrique, sur les traces historiques de l’épreuve initiale avec une arrivée au Lac Rose, est une bénédiction pour la discipline. Le terrain de jeu est fantastique et Alain LOPES, qui a tracé le parcours et déterminé les zones et les vitesses moyennes imposées, a fait un travail extraordinaire. Les participants vont se régaler et la compétition va être très disputées. La course Classic dispose des moyens sécuritaires, logistiques et médiatiques mis en place sur le Rallye. Cette course ne demande qu’à grandir et pourrait devenir, à terme, la référence absolue de la discipline. »

Demain, vendredi 5 janvier, c’est encore une grosse étape qui attend les participants avec 467 Km de secteur sélectif et seulement 5 km de liaison entre Oued Draa et Fort Chacal.

AFRICA ECO RACE: THE RACE IS WELL UNDERWAY

With 8 degrees on the thermometer, the temperature was already much milder on the morning of Thursday January 4 at the start of the Oued Draa bivouac, not far from Mahmid, the Mecca of Rally Raids in Morocco. All the conditions were in place for a great day’s racing.  

Alessandro BOTTURI was all smiles at the finish of the 463km special stage between Mahmid and Assa. Riding his Yamaha 700 Ténéré, the two-time winner of the event had won the stage and taken 2nd place overall from Pol TARRES, the second official rider for the blues. It was a great result for the jovial Italian, who beat his team-mate by 00:01:29 in the selective sector and by 00:00:35 in the provisional standings:

“The stage was very beautiful, with some pretty good dunes, but the navigation wasn’t easy. From kilometer 210, we caught up with CERUTTI and rode with him. Yesterday I thought the pace was high and I wondered if I was old enough to compete with the two furious riders at the front. Today was even worse and yet I rode with them without any problems. We’ll see what happens next. »

Finishing 3rd today at 00:02:18, Jacopo CERUTTI remains leader of the bike classification aboard his APRILIA Touareg 660 at 00:06:20.

The Italian had managed to hold onto the lead until the halfway point of the race, but was caught out by a small navigation error. It took more than 30 minutes for the first 450s to arrive, including the HONDA of Italian Giovanni GRITTI, the KTM of Swiss rider Alexandre VAUDAN and the HUSQVARNA of Guillaume BORNE. All three, separated by less than two minutes, are entered in the ROOKIE RIDER BY ACERBIS, which rewards the best riders under 35 who have never taken part in a major off-road rally. Last but not least, Italian Andrea GAVA put in a great performance, setting a magnificent 7th fastest time on his BETA from 33rd position.

In the Car/SSV/Truck category, it was once again an APACHE SSV that won this 3rd stage. This time, it was the car of Gautier PAULIN and Remi BOULANGER, ahead of the CAM AM of Heatcliff ZINGRAF and Gregory REVEST for 00:01:17 and the POLARIS of Éric SCHIANO and Camille POURCHIER, who recovered well from their problems at the start of the event.

Overall, the former Motocross champion maintains his lead on four wheels with a lead of just 00:03:35 over ZINGRAF. The battle rages on, with the POLARIS of Frédéric HENRICY and Éric BERSEY trailing behind at 01:17:23.

As for the cars, the TOYOTA of Belgian drivers Pascal FERYN and Kurt KEYSERS finished 9th overall at 01:14:45, ahead of the other 4X4 of the FERYN DAKAR TEAM of Koen WAUTERS and Kris VEN DER STEEN at just under 15 minutes. In the provisional general standings, FEYRIN leads the category ahead of WAUTERS.

In the truck category, the Czech Tomas TOMECEK finished 11th in this 3rd special stage and remains the leader of the desert mamoths.

In the Classic race, after this second stage, Yves LOUBET, the event’s Sporting Director, who was instrumental in the return of this historic category to the AFRICA ECO RACE, commented on the start of the race with his legendary enthusiasm and outspokenness:
“This Classic category in Africa, in the historic footsteps of the original event with a finish at Lac Rose, is a blessing for the discipline. The playing field is fantastic and Alain LOPEZ, who mapped out the route and determined the zones and average speeds imposed, has done an extraordinary job. The participants are in for a treat and the competition is going to be very competitive. The Classic race has all the safety, logistical and media resources that the Rally has to offer. It’s a race that’s just waiting to grow and, in time, it could become the absolute benchmark for the discipline.

Tomorrow, Friday January 5, another big stage awaits the participants, with 467km of selective sector and just 5km of liaison between Oued Draa and Fort Chacal.

AFRICA ECO RACE: LA GARA È BEN AVVIATA

Con 8 gradi al termometro, la temperatura era già molto più mite questo giovedì 4 gennaio, al mattino, dalla partenza del bivacco di Oued Draa, situato non lontano da Mahmid, luogo di riferimento per i Rally Raids organizzati in Marocco. Tutte le condizioni erano dunque riunite affinché una bella giornata di gara potesse svolgersi.

Alessandro BOTTURI aveva un sorriso all’arrivo della speciale di 463 km tra Mahmid e Assa. Alla guida della sua YAMAHA 700 Ténéré, il vincitore doppio della gara aveva infatti appena vinto la tappa e ripreso la seconda posizione nella classifica generale da Pol TARRES, il secondo pilota ufficiale della squadra. Una bella operazione per l’allegra italiano che ha preceduto il suo compagno di squadra di 00:01:29 nel settore cronometrato e di 00:00:35 nella classifica provvisoria :

“La tappa era molto bella con dune abbastanza portanti, ma la navigazione non era facile. Dal chilometro 210, abbiamo raggiunto CERUTTI e siamo andati avanti con lui. Ieri trovavo il ritmo alto e mi chiedevo se avessi ancora l’età per competere con i due avanti. Oggi era ancora peggio eppure ho guidato con loro senza problemi. Vedremo cosa succede in seguito.”

Terminando al terzo posto oggi a 00:02:18, Jacopo CERUTTI rimane leader della classifica moto alla guida della sua APRILIA Touareg 660 con 00:06:20. L’italiano era riuscito a mantenere la testa fino alla metà della gara ma è stato ripreso a causa di un piccolo errore di navigazione. Ci sono voluti più di 30 minuti per vedere arrivare le prime 450, tra cui la HONDA dell’italiano Giovanni GRITTI, la KTM dello svizzero Alexandre VAUDAN e l’HUSQVARNA di Guillaume BORNE.

Tutti e tre, separati da meno di due minuti, sono impegnati nella ROOKIE RIDER BY ACERBIS che premia i migliori piloti under 35 che non hanno mai partecipato a nessun grande Rally Tout Terrain. Per concludere, va segnalata la grande performance dell’italiano Andrea GAVA che, partito in 33ª posizione, firma un magnifico 7° tempo alla guida della sua BETA.

Nella categoria Auto/SSV/Camion, è nuovamente un SSV APACHE a imporsi in questa terza tappa. Questa volta si tratta di quello di Gautier PAULIN e Remi BOULANGER che precede il CAM AM di Heatcliff ZINGRAF e Gregory REVEST per 00:01:17 e il POLARIS di Éric SCHIANO e Camille POURCHIER che raddrizzano la barra dopo i loro problemi all’inizio della gara.

In generale, l’ex campione di Motocross mantiene la leadership su quattro ruote con soli 00:03:35 di vantaggio su ZINGRAF. Tanto che la battaglia è accesa mentre dietro il POLARIS di Frédéric HENRICY e Éric BERSEY è a 01:17:23.

Nel settore auto, la TOYOTA dei belgi Pascal FERYN e Kurt KEYSERS termina 9ª assoluta a 01:14:45 davanti all’altro 4X4 del FERYN DAKAR TEAM di Koen WAUTERS e Kris VEN DER STEEN a poco meno di 15 minuti. In generale provvisoria, FEYRIN è leader della categoria davanti a WAUTERS.

Nella categoria camion, terminando in 11ª posizione in questa terza speciale, il ceco Tomas TOMECEK rimane leader dei mastodonti del deserto.

Per quanto riguarda la gara Classic, dopo la seconda tappa composta da 4 settori di regolarità. Yves LOUBET, direttore sportivo dell’evento, che ha contribuito al ritorno di questa categoria storica all’AFRICA ECO RACE, ha commentato questo inizio di gara con il suo entusiasmo e il suo linguaggio diretto leggendario:

“Questa categoria Classic in Africa, sulle tracce storiche della gara iniziale con arrivo al Lac Rose, è una benedizione per la disciplina. Il campo di gioco è fantastico e Alain LOPES, che ha tracciato il percorso e determinato le zone e le velocità medie imposte, ha fatto un lavoro straordinario. I partecipanti si divertiranno e la competizione sarà molto agguerrita. La gara Classic dispone dei mezzi di sicurezza, logistica e mediatici messi in atto sul Rally. Questa gara chiede solo di crescere e potrebbe diventare, a lungo termine, il riferimento assoluto della disciplina.”

Domani, venerdì 5 gennaio, è ancora in attesa dei partecipanti una grossa tappa con 467 km di settore selettivo e solo 5 km di collegamento tra Oued Draa e Fort Chacal.
