AFRICA ECO RACE : A FOND VERS LE SUD MAROCAIN
Si pour certains concurrents de l’AFRICA ECO RACE 2024, la 3ème étape a laissé des traces , pour d’autres la motivation était bien présente ce matin au départ du bivouac d’Oued Draa, non loin de Tagounite. Il faut dire que cette spéciale de 467 km était particulièrement longue, sur un terrain varié avec une navigation plutôt exigeante sur la fin du parcours.
Une fois encore aujourd’hui, l’Italien Jacopo CERUTTI a été le plus fort. Parti en 3ème position ce matin derrière les deux YAMAHA officielles, le pilote APRILIA a réussi à reprendre l’Italien Alessandro BOTTURI, parti en tête et l’Andorran Pol TARRES parti 2ème. Il remporte ainsi sa 3ème victoire depuis le début du rallye et conforte sa place au général avec désormais 00:08:55 d’avance au général sur TARRES alors que BOTTURI pointe à 00:10:22.
Les trois hommes comptent un peu plus de deux heures d’avance sur le Franco Marocain Guill
aume BORNE, à nouveau 4ème aujourd’hui au guidon de son HUSQVARNA et leader de la catégorie 450 et de la ROOKIE RIDERS BY ACERBIS. Belle opération sur cette 4ème étape pour l’Italien Giovanni GRITTI qui, en plaçant sa HONDA en 5ème position, est à seulement 4 minutes de BORNE en 450.
Visiblement, cette journée a bien réussi aux bicylindres puisqu’Alessandro RUOSO et Nicolas CHARLIER terminent 6ème et 7ème sur leur YAMAHA Ténéré 700, Francesco MONTANARI se classe 8ème sur l’APRILIA, juste devant Juan PEDRERO et sa HARLEY DAVIDSON 1250 Pan American qui déclarait à l’arrivée :
« Je suis parti prudemment car je ne voulais pas prendre de risque dans les cailloux. Malgré cela, je me suis aperçu au ravitaillement que mon pneu avant était déchiré sur le flan et j’ai roulé avec l’appréhension de ne pas finir toute la deuxième partie de spéciale. Du coup, je me suis appliqué sur la navigation et j’ai emmené avec moi, sur la bonne trace, d’autres pilotes. Par contre, je suis totalement détruit physiquement par cette moto au moteur incroyablement puissant. »
L’italien Marco MENICHINI complète le top 10 du jour avec son HUSQVARNA 450.
Dans le challenge MOTUL XTREME RIDER réservé aux pilotes sans assistance, la victoire revient au Français Nicolas BOTTU sur KTM. En revanche, c’est l’Italien Stefano CHIUSSI sur HUSQVARNA qui est leader après quatre étapes.
Sur quatre roues la performance du jour est à mettre à l’actif de Pierre-Louis LOUBET et François BORSOTTO qui imposent leur SSV APACHE avec pourtant deux crevaisons. Après une belle explication sur la piste avec le Pick-Up TOYOTA de Koen WAUTERS, les Français signent leur deuxième victoire et devancent de 00:03:59 le CAN AM des Espagnols Carlos VENTO et Carlos RUIZ MORENO.
Le TOYOTA de Koen WAUTERS et Kris VEN DER STEEN termine 3ème du scratch Auto/SSV/Camion à 00:10:08. Les Belges s’imposent en Auto devant les Hongrois Imre VARGA et Jozsef TOMA, 6ème de la spéc
iale, également sur TOYOTA. Pascal FERYN et Kurt KEYSERS complètent le podium du jour des T1 4X4.
Au classement général provisoire, en prenant la 4ème place au scratch et la 3ème des SSV, Gautier PAULIN navigué par Remy BOULANGER et leur SSV APACHE comptent désormais 01:48:09 d’avance sur le CAN AM de Frédéric HENRICY et Eric BERSEY, alors que les Espagnols Carlos VENTO et Carlos RUIZ MORENO remontent à la 3ème place.
Chez les camions, la victoire revient au SCANIA de Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VAN VELSEN et Marco SIEMONS. Les Hollandais ont devancé d’une dizaine de minutes le TATRA du Tchèque Tomas TOMECEK, toujours leader du général.
Dans la course Classic, la bataille a encore fait rage aujourd’hui sur les deux Zones de Régularité. Le niveau est très haut et les concurrents sont incroyables de régularité. Après trois étapes et 11 ZR, les Belges Eric et Tom CLAEYS mènent la danse sur leur TOYOTA BJ 73 devant leurs compatriotes René DECLERCQ et John DEMEESTER sur un BOMBARDIER Iltis. L’Autrichien Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE et le Français Jean Michel GAYTE complètent le podium provisoire sur un MITSUBISHI Pajero.
Demain, l’AFRICA ECO RACE va poursuivre sa descente plein sud en direction de Dakhla où se déroulera la journée de repos ce dimanche 7 janvier. En attendant, après une liaison de 27 km, il restera une spéciale de 397 km et une liaison de 168 km pour enfin souffler au bord de l’Océan Atlantique avant d’attaquer la deuxième semaine en Mauritanie.
AFRICA ECO RACE: ALL OUT FOR SOUTHERN MOROCCO
For some competitors in the AFRICA ECO RACE 2024, Stage 3 may have left its mark, but for others, the motivation was very much in evidence this morning at the start of the bivouac at Oued Draa, not far from Tagounite. It has to be said that this 467km special was particularly long, over varied terrain with some rather demanding navigation at the end of the route.
Once again today, Italy’s Jacopo CERUTTI was the strongest. Starting in 3rd position this morning behind the two official Yamaha’s, the APRILIA rider managed to catch the Italian Alessandro BOTTURI, who had started in the lead, and the Andorran Pol TARRES, who had
started 2nd. This was his 3rd victory since the start of the rally and strengthened his overall lead over TARRES at 00:08:55, with BOTTURI at 00:10:22.
The three men have a lead of just over two hours over Franco-Moroccan Guillaume BORNE, once again 4th today aboard his HUSQVARNA and leader of the 450 category and the ROOKIE RIDERS BY ACERBIS. Italian rider Giovanni GRITTI did well on stage 4, putting his HONDA in 5th position and just 4 minutes behind BORNE in the 450 class.
Clearly, it was a good day for the two-cylinder machines, with Alessandro RUOSO and Nicolas CHARLIER finishing 6th and 7th on their YAMAHA Tenere 700, while Francesco MONTANARI finished 8th on the APRILIA, just ahead of Juan PEDRERO and his HARLEY DAVIDSON 1250 Pan American, who said at the finish:
“I started cautiously because I didn’t want to take any risks in the rocks. Despite that, I realized at the refueling point that my front tyre was torn on the sidewall and I drove with the fear that I wouldn’t finish the whole of the second part of the stage. As a result, I applied myself to navigation and I took other riders with me on the right track. On the other hand, I’m totally destroyed physically by this bike with its incredibly powerful engine.”
Italian Marco MENICHINI rounded off the day’s top 10 with his HUSQVARNA 450.
In the MOTUL XTREME RIDER challenge for unassisted riders, victory went to Frenchman Nicolas BOTTU on a KTM. On the other hand, Italian Stefano CHIUSSI on his HUSQVARNA is the leader after four stages.
On four wheels, Pierre-Louis LOUBET and François BORSOTTO put in the best performance of the day with their APACHE SSV, despite two punctures. After a great battle on the track with the Pick-Up TOYOTA of Koen WAUTERS, the Frenchmen scored their second victory and beat the CAN AM of Spaniards Carl
os VENTO and Carlos RUIZ MORENO by 00:03:59.
The TOYOTA of Koen WAUTERS and Kris VEN DER STEEN finished 3rd overall at 00:10:08. The Belgians won the Car category ahead of Hungary’s Imre VARGA and Jozsef TOMA, who finished 6th on the stage, also in a TOYOTA. Pascal FERYN and Kurt KEYSERS completed the day’s podium in the T1 4X4 category.
In the provisional overall standings, taking 4th place overall and 3rd in the SSV category, Gautier PAULIN driven by Remy BOULANGER and their APACHE SSV now have a lead of 01:48:09 over Frederic HENRICY and Eric BERSEY’s CAN AM, while Spain’s Carlos VENTO and Carlos RUIZ MORENO move up to 3rd place.
In the truck category, victory went to the SCANIA of Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VAN VELSEN and Marco SIEMONS. The Dutch team beat the TATRA of Czech Tomas TOMECEK, still the overall leader, by around ten minutes.
In the Classic race, the battle raged again today over the two Regularity Zones. The level was very high and the competitors were incredibly consistent. After three stages and 11 “R-Z’s”, Belgians Eric and Tom CLAEYS are leading the way in their TOYOTA BJ 73 ahead of their compatriots René DECLERCQ and John DEMEESTER in a BOMBARDIER Iltis. Austrian Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE and Frenchman Jean Michel GAYTE rounded off the provisional podium in a MITSUBISHI Pajero.
Tomorrow, the AFRICA ECO RACE will continue its descent due south towards Dakhla, where the rest day will take place on Sunday 7 January. In the meantime, after a 27km liaison, there will be a 397km special stage and a 168km liaison to finally take a breather on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean before tackling the second week in Mauritania.
AFRICA ECO RACE: A TUTTA VELOCITÀ VERSO IL SUD DEL MAROCCO
Se per alcuni concorrenti dell’AFRICA ECO RACE 2024 la terza tappa ha lasciato il segno, per altri la motivazione era ben presente questa mattina alla partenza del bivacco di Oued Draa, non lontano da Tagounite. Va detto che questa speciale di 467 km era particolarmente lunga, su un terreno vario con una navigazione piuttosto impegnativa nella parte finale del percorso.
Ancora una volta oggi l’italiano Jacopo CERUTTI è stato il più forte. Partito in terza posizione questa mattina dietro le due YAMAHA ufficiali, il pilota APRILIA è riuscito a superare l’italiano Alessandro BOTTURI, partito in testa, e l’andorrano Pol TARRES partito secondo. Conquista così la sua terza vittoria dall’inizio del rally e rafforza la sua posizione generale con ora 00:08:55 di vantaggio su TARRES, mentre BOTTURI è a 00:10:22.
I tre uomini hanno poco più di due ore di vantaggio sul franco-marocchino Guillaume BORNE, nuovamente 4° oggi alla guida della sua HUSQVARNA e leader della categoria 450 e della ROOKIE RIDERS BY ACERBIS. Ottima performan
ce per l’italiano Giovanni GRITTI nella quarta tappa, posizionando la sua HONDA al 5° posto, a soli 4 minuti da BORNE in 450.
Evidentemente, questa giornata è stata positiva per le bicilindriche, dato che Alessandro RUOSO e Nicolas CHARLIER terminano al 6° e 7° posto sulla loro YAMAHA Ténéré 700, Francesco MONTANARI si classifica 8° sull’APRILIA, subito davanti a Juan PEDRERO e alla sua HARLEY DAVIDSON 1250 Pan American che ha dichiarato all’arrivo:
“Sono partito con cautela perché non volevo correre rischi tra le rocce. Nonostante ciò, ho notato al rifornimento che il mio pneumatico anteriore era strappato su un lato e ho guidato con l’ansia di non finire tutta la seconda parte della speciale. Di conseguenza, mi sono concentrato sulla navigazione e ho portato con me, sulla giusta traccia, altri piloti. Tuttavia, sono completamente distrutto fisicamente da questa moto con un motore incredibilmente potente. “
L’italiano Marco MENICHINI completa la top 10 della giornata con la sua HUSQVARNA 450.
Nel challenge MOTUL XTREME RIDER riservato ai piloti senza assistenza, la vittoria va al francese Nicolas BOTTU su KTM. Invece, è l’italiano Stefano CHIUSSI su HUSQVARNA che è in testa dopo quattro tappe.
Nelle quattro ruote, la performance del giorno è da attribuire a Pierre-Louis LOUBET e François BORSOTTO che impongono il loro SSV APACHE nonostante due forature. Dopo una bella lotta in pista con il Pick-Up TOYOTA di Koen WAUTERS, i francesi ottengono la loro seconda vittoria e precedono di 00:03:59 il CAN AM degli spagnoli Carlos VENTO e Carlos RUIZ MORENO.
Il TOYOTA di Koen WAUTERS e Kris VEN DER STEEN si piazza al 3° posto nel ranking Auto/SSV/Camion a 00:10:08. I belgi si impongono in Auto davanti agli ungheresi Imre VARGA e Jozsef TOMA, 6° nella speciale, anch’essi su TOYOTA. Pascal FERYN e Kurt KEYSERS completano il podio del giorno delle T1 4X4.
In classifica generale provvisoria, conquistando il 4° posto nel ranking e il 3° nei SSV, Gautier PAULIN navigato da Remy BOULANGER e il loro SSV APACHE hanno ora un vantaggio
di 01:48:09 sul CAN AM di Frédéric HENRICY ed Eric BERSEY, mentre gli spagnoli Carlos VENTO e Carlos RUIZ MORENO risalgono al 3° posto.

Nel frattempo, dopo un collegamento di 27 km, rimarrà una speciale di 397 km e un collegamento di 168 km per finalmente respirare vicino all’Oceano Atlantico prima di affrontare la seconda settimana in Mauritania.
