as good enough to immediately make the most of it. He (starting seventh in the pre-final) was aiming at a victory in the single races, while his team mate Musio (who started tenth) was in the battle for some precious points towards the Open’s International points standings. Aceto would finish the pre-final in fourth place just a few seconds behind Angelo Lombardo, the brand new winner of the KZ2 European Championship in Germany who monopolised both races: Musio finished two positions further back. Toninelli’s race ended right at the start of the final and Aceto was third. But that’s not all. Fast lap after fast lap (he recorded the second fastest lap of the race), he ate away tenth after tenth of Riccardo Piccoli’s lead until he made the pass. Piccoli was already 2009 Open Masters category Champion before the start: in that moment his kart was much faster. Aceto finished second, holding off all the other contenders in this 2009 Open (from what we saw in this race, Aceto could have competed for the title…). “I am very happy – said the driver – I wasn’t expecting this; but with the team we have become more confident step by step. It was a while that I hadn’t raced, thanks to everyone, especially Giampaolo (Righetti, Administrative Manager of the group n.d.r.)”. Musio was also on form and finished fourth, concluding the Open International Championship in an overall sixth place. An excellent result for him and the team. In fact Giampaolo Righetti is satisfied: “Both Aceto and Musio had a very good race. And to think that we only decided to let Aceto race on Monday. Out of the blue. Now we will race the Industrie, then we will see”.
250 4 STROKE
In three words: what a shame. Claudio Mack had the International 250 4Stroke series in his grasp and only a puncture a few corners from the finish prevented him from winning: “At the end I was very disappointed, – says Giampaolo Righetti – because it would have been enough to finish the race in any position to win”. In the pre-final, even though he started seventh, the Righetti Ridolfi driver managed to climb through the field with ease to reach second position and earn precious points towards closing the Championship definitively. In the final, he wisely decided not to risk too much in the traffic and lost a few positions. Better to manage the situation. And that’s just what Mack did. Up until that puncture six laps from the finish. Just as he caught up with Cavalieri, the winner of the National title and, by just 4 points over Mack, also of the International series of the 2009 Open Masters. Anyway, the German driver showed he can compete at the front against anyone: the second place in the general standings is there as proof, almost as a reminder for his adversaries for the upcoming races. Which he will race in his Goldkart as always.
